Boulangerie Saint Georges at Eastern Market opened Saturday morning at 7:30am, offering house made pastries, breads, sandwiches and coffee. Here’s a photo at noon, with more than 50 people waiting in line. At times, the wait was two hours+ to get inside.

Here’s the view from inside.

By mid afternoon, Boulangerie Saint Georges posted on line: “Merci à tous” – Thanks everyone. “We are out of food today, but coffee, tea ad matcha drinks are still available! We prepared an amount of food that was 4X our expectations for a busy day, and the community came out and crushed it! (Apologies…) We will be back tomorrow morning with more delicious pastries, bread, salads, and sandwiches. (Hours 7:30am – 7:00pm)

Here’s the beverage menu.
Why the surprise? We’ve been waiting YEARS for them to open! Just glad I was too late to line up on day one, probably would have run out of pastry by the time I got to the head of the line. I hear from intrepid reporter Maggie Hall, who lives a few steps away, that today is just as bad. So Tuesday it will be (they’re closed Monday). I just hope folks will go to work and leave the place to Maggie and me.
Well, as “intrepid” as I am (or used to be) I didn’t know they were closed on Mondays. So, Stephanie, we’re going to have to wait until Tuesday to sample their wares. btw: at 11,30 am today line as long as ever!
I’ll wait until mid-morning mid-week. My grandparents left the old country in order to avoid waiting in line for bread and food. I don’t wait in line for food.
Happy for Saint Georges, but, like you, my father came on a boat so that I wouldn’t have to wait in line for food.
