Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton held a community meeting last Thursday on the impact on the community of the attack on the Capitol. She announced that she had that day introduced a bill to prohibit fencing off the U.S. Capitol. Norton and CM Charles Allen pressed MPD Chief Contee and U.S. Capitol Police Deputy Chief Chad Thomas for details on the security failures which led to the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol and how long he fence would be up. Neither was forthcoming, deflecting questions with the standard “the matter is under investigation” excuse.
Later that night, an irate CM Allen appeared before ANC6B, and could hardly contain his frustration at USCP Deputy Chief Chad Thomas’ claim that the fencing off of Bartholdi Park and the Botanic Garden were related to the pandemic.
