The Week Ahead…Special Meetings on Redistricting & Some Photos from the Past Week

The city-wide caucus of ANC Commissioners met last Monday.  They discussed a request from Councilmember Robert White, Chair of the Committee on Government Operations, for feedback on the desired qualifications for a candidate to head up the DC Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions.  Former Director Gottlieb Simon, announced his retirement last September.  Representatives of the group expect to join a November 30th roundtable to make recommendations. 

The US Capitol Christmas Tree – an 84 foot white fir from the Six Rivers National Forest in California  – arrived at the US Capitol on November 19, ending its 3,000 mile journey on the West Front of the US Capitol.  The tree lighting ceremony will occur at 5:00pm on Wednesday, December 1.

It looks like restaurateur Spike Mendelsohn (We the Pizza, Good Stuff Eatery, and Santa Rosa Taqueria) has given up on the idea of an ice cream parlor at the old Lustre Cleaners at 311 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE.            
Sweet Crimes, the new Capitol Hill Gluten Free Bakery at 1238 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, opened last Monday in time for a rush for Thanksgiving Day baked goods.  Hours are 9am – 3pm daily except Friday (closed).  https://www.facebook.com/eatsweetcrimes/

It’s not every day you can find gluten free carrot cake – but Sweet Crimes had it Saturday morning.

Both ANC6A and ANC6B are holding special meetings on the City Council’s Subcommittee on Redistricting plan to move parts of those ANCs into Ward 7.

Saturday, December 4

H St Movemberfest is back in person this year on Saturday December 4 @ 3pm at Little Miss Whiskeys.  The Queen Vic is providing the food and DC Brau is providing the beverages. Tickets are $65 https://movemberfestpigroast21.eventbrite.com/  which buys you all you can eat and drink and entrance to the event with 100% of proceeds going to The Movember Foundation to raise awareness of men’s health issues. www.movember.com  Proof of Covid vaccination at check in will be required.

Event producers have partnered with Lance Macon of Metro Home Managers for two exciting promotions.   Macon will be matching dollar for dollar every prize we give away in the raffle with a donation to The Movember Foundation.  For the second promotion, for any client referral mentioning the Movemberfest Pig Roast that buys, sells, or rents a home Macon will donate 5% of his commission to the charity of that customer’s choice as well as 5% to The Movember Foundation.
