The former Mason & Greens – and before that – Dunkin’ Donuts, at 801 PA Ave, Barracks Row

The international company Cleopatra Ink is in the process of building out the former Mason & Greens at 801 8th Street, Barracks Row, in preparation for “opening soon.”  Founded in 2014 in Turkey, the growing franchise operation of 150 studios in 17 countries has about three dozen locations in the United States, the closest in Baltimore.

The popularity of tattoos and piercing is likely to attract patrons to Barracks Row from across the city and the DMV, which 8th Street business owners will welcome.  Reports from a recent CHAMPS (Capitol Hills Chamber of Commerce) meeting heard business owners expressing concern about the slow summer and lack of tourists.

Hours of operation for Cleopatra outlets differ according to location – the Baltimore studio operates daily from 10:00am until 8:00pm – but none appear to stay open later than 9:00pm.

The company has been criticized by ink artists for its corporate approach to creativity and for the sourcing of its proffered images.  Other online critics indicate quality of services and personnel vary from location to location.

I am seriously sorry that Capitol Hill cannot attract businesses that serve a large larger clientele in such an historic building particularly ! I’m sorry this is too niche a business and we do not need more of this stuff on Capitol Hill
