Last Saturday closed out the Capitol Hill Art League’s Members (CHAL) Juried Exhibition at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. 

CHAL members were invited to delve into the abstract, by sharing artwork that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effects using shapes, forms, lines, colors. The exhibition was juried by Kelly MacConomy.  Here are the First, Second, and Third Place Winners.

In the Woods.  Tara Hamilton.  Third Place.

The pickle ball courts on the 100 block of Virginia Avenue under the freeway next to Garfield Park are online.  The Robert M. Krughoff  Pickleball Center at Garfield Park, was named after the grass roots activist who first established a guerrilla pickle ball court at the site back in July of 2019.  Krughoff died before the new courts became operational.  The courts operate entirely on a free, first-come, first-served basis. 

Mr. Henry’s Celebrates 60 Years with a Gala on Saturday, August 29 at 7:00pm.  Join the celebration with neighbors and friends.

ANC6A Community Advisory Committee will hold a virtual meeting

Among items on the draft agenda:

6A Grants Program: Budget and Bylaws

  • Proposed motion scheduled to discuss and recommend that ANC 6A increase the annual grant budget by $500.

COC Membership

  • Proposed motion scheduled to discuss and recommend to ANC 6A the addition of new committee members: Daniel Aboagye and Mia Mathis.

Tuesday, August 25

ANC6B will hold a virtual Executive Committee meeting at 7:00pm.

The Committee will set the agenda for the next full ANC meeting and the agendas for committees and task forces in September. 

ANC6A Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Committee will hold a virtual meeting at 7:00pm

Old Business

  • Update and discussion regarding settlement agreement negotiations a substantial change request to a license to change hours of operation and alcoholic beverage sales, service, and consumption, and hours of live entertainment, for 618 Productions, LLC, dba Transmission, 1353 H Street NE.

New Business

Alcohol Applications

  • Discussion of an application for a New Retailer’s Class “C” Restaurant license for Indochine Cuisine and Lounge, LLC, 1025 H Street NE, 1st Floor.

Open house on Transit Improvements Proposed by WMATA for the RFK Campus.

St. Coletta of Greater Washington:  6:00pm – 8:00pm. 

DC and WMATA agreed to a plan for the $300 million expansion of the Stadium-Armory station and the Gold Line rapid transit bus line that would run from Union Station to Stadium-Armory. The meeting will be an opportunity to provide community feedback on the plan.

This event will also include a backpack giveaway for children 5-18, while supplies last.
